Aaron has been in soccer since the beginning of July. At the first few practices we'd find him on the ground, searching for bugs, pulling the grass out piece by piece....well, you get the idea.
We've worked with him on the basics of dribbling, passing, throwing in and being a goalie. He gets that. He really does. However, you can't really teach him how to be aggressive. When he's on the field with his team we'll see him 15-20 paces behind the rest of the team, running like Shaggy, checking out the other fields, looking at the sunset, etc. We've tried encouraging words like, "Get the ball!" "Go after it! That's the way!" but he just looks at us blankly as the ball comes his way. It's somewhat humorous and pitiful all at the same time. We'd never put him in a sport if he didn't want to play. I ask him every time if he wants to play and he always says yes. And he loves to practice with Keith or I on the nights after his games or practices. We've been told that 'it'll come' and we're waiting for that day. He's so darn gangly with his skinny long legs and his coordination is uh.....interesting.
